East Lansing, Michigan, United States — The fourth annual GreenLight Business Model Competition announces winners of the March 30, 2016 competition. Competitors who impressed the panel of judges were able to win part of the $50,000 in cash prizes, the $25,000 grand prize being the largest, as well as network with numerous Michigan-based entrepreneurs and investors.

BEST OVERALL PITCH ($1,000): Big E’s Smoke Shack
MOST CREATIVE/ORIGINAL ($1,000): Hoppily Ever After
Returning this year is the $5,000 Every Day Care Award, sponsored by Michigan-based Whirlpool Corporation. Whirlpool is dedicated to helping families thrive. They believe that the simple acts of care, day in and day out, have the power to change the world. Reflecting these ideals, the award was given to the team whose idea best promoted innovation that helps keep homes running smoothly.
GreenLight Michigan was co-created by Spartan Innovations in the MSU Innovation Center and Michigan State University Federal Credit Union, and is sponsored by the Michigan Economic Development Corporation, Liquid Web, Whirlpool Corporation, Lansing Economic Area Partnership, Foster Swift PC, Venturit and other sponsors.
Working to expand entrepreneurship and small business success in Michigan, the final GreenLight Michigan event included winners of recent regional GreenLight events in East Jordan, Detroit, Port Huron and Flint.
“Our partnerships allow us to support great ideas and innovators from around the state,” said Paul Jaques, director of student and community engagement at Spartan Innovations. “Michigan startups have ideas and talent that can compete on a global scale. We’re proud to offer this opportunity, in addition to the funding support, to help grow small business and entrepreneurship.”
Greenlight was held at MSU’s Wharton Center for Performing Arts in East Lansing.
